In order to be fully admitted to the Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Program with Dual Certification in Secondary Education (P-12) and Teacher of Student with Disabilities, students enter Montclair State University with conditional admission to the program of Secondary Education (P-12). For full admission to this program, you must satisfy specific course and admission requirements.
In the first two years of study, you must satisfactorily complete the following prerequisite courses, with a minimum of a C- or better grade.
- EDFD 200 – Psychological Foundations of Education (Meets Social Science general education requirement)
- EDFD 220 – Philosophical Orientation to Education (Meets Philosophy/Religion general education requirement)
- EDFD 221 – Historical Foundations of American Education (Meets American/European History general education requirement)
- EDFD/SASE 210 – Public Purposes of Education: Democracy and Schooling (Meets (L) general education elective; must have sophomore status or higher)
- 9 (nine) credits in your major coursework. Math majors must complete 11 credits including Calculus I and II, and a course that requires Calculus II as a prerequisite.
Additional admission requirements for the Teacher Education Program may vary by certification or degree program. However, for full consideration at the time of application, applicants must show evidence of the following:
- Passing standardized test score (ACT, SAT or Praxis Core)
- Meeting the overall minimum GPA requirement
- Meeting the minimum GPA requirements in the major
- Demonstrated evidence of satisfactory written and oral skills
Acceptance into the Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Program with Dual Certification in Secondary Education and Teacher of Student with Disabilities, will allow you to remain in this program and to pursue the master’s degree and dual certification, as long as you continue to meet ongoing requirements.
