Sumi Hagiwara is an assistant professor in early childhood and elementary education at Montclair State University where she has been teaching about diversity and culture, and science, math, and technology to preservice early childhood and elementary teachers. She is currently researching equity and agency for preservice teachers and parents in urban schools, and continues to examine immigrant parent involvement in education. Previous research appears in the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Cultural Studies in Science Education, and the International Journal of Science Education. She has recently co-edited a book, Change Agents in Science Education, to advance the discourse on change agency using science across settings.
