Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month 2021

Calendar of Events
The Montclair State University Office for Hispanic Initiatives is dedicated to upholding the university’s allegiance to promoting an inclusive environment to support the success of all Hispanic students, faculty and staff. These commitments also include support of scholarship and teaching to further our knowledge and understanding about Hispanics in New Jersey and the U.S. as an integral and vital component of the American social fabric, as well as to strengthen relationships with local families and communities.

As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 through October 15, we invite you to join in the many activities planned including an alumni gathering at Homecoming on October 9. Schedule is:

HACU (The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is co-hosting a webinar with Google, as part of HACU’s National Internship Program to promote available internships and full-time opportunities with Google.

Equity in the Latinx Community Webinar Series
Part 1: Equity Journeys via Zoom RSVP
The PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies, in partnership with Latinxs in Sustainability, announces the next collaborative webinar series titled, Equity in the Latinx Community. Part 1 will showcase four Latinx professionals in the sustainability industry: Andres Alvarez (Research Director, Creative Renewable Solutions), Christian Sanchez (Senior Energy Consultant, Sargent & Lundy), Melina Acevedo (Sales Analyst, Nextracker), and Sebastian Sarria (Programs and Policy Manager, San Diego Community Power).

Latin American Female Leaders at the United Nations

“Latin American Female Leaders at the United Nations.” The ambassadors of Mexico, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic will talk about their experiences and challenges as female diplomats and how they rose to top leadership positions at the United Nations. The event will be moderated by Professor Katherine McCaffrey. This event is organized by the Dept of Political Science and Law, in collaboration with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Office for Hispanic Initiatives.

Equity in the Latinx Community Webinar Series
Part 2: COVID-19 Inequities via Zoom RSVP
Part 2 will include a presentation from Dr. Lupita Montoya (Research Affiliate, University of Colorado Boulder) to help our community understand the COVID-19 disparities. Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people in the US are disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with higher mortality rates, and more economic fallout and educational setbacks.
