Carnegie Taps Professor as Fellow

Public Health Associate Professor Tamara Leech has been named to the 2022 class of Andrew Carnegie Fellows and will be awarded a $200,000 stipend to devote up to two years for research and writing in the humanities and social sciences.

Celebrating Survival and Triumph

Ravina brothers and Montclair host screening of documentary of their mother’s Holocaust survival story. Event also celebrates their father’s life in music that spanned decades teaching at Montclair and performing with the NY Philharmonic.

Doctoral Student Joins Ocean Expedition

Victoria Hojnacki, studying in the Environmental Science and Management program, is one of 52 international scientists selected to sail on a deep-sea drilling vessel and investigate climate change.

  • Stephanie Silvera (Public Health) is quoted in this WHYY.org article about a fair planned in Burlington County to address health and housing needs. Silvera is also quoted in this Newsday article about at-home COVID tests.
  • Sandra Adams (Biology) is quoted in this NJ.com article that asks, “Are stomach problems a symptom of COVID?”
  • Tamara Leech’s Carnegie Fellowship has been reported on NPR affiliate WNYC-FM’s local news as well as in Forbes.

  • The Montclair Literary Festival runs from Thursday, May 5 to Monday, May 9 and this year includes two on-campus events. Our creative writing students will read their work on Thursday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m. in University Hall 1010, and Montclair High School and Montclair Kimberley Academy students will read their work on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in University Hall 1030.

  • To Patricia Miranda (Art and Design), whose exhibit of lace and fabric works, “Patricia Miranda: A Repairing Mend,” is at the Jane St. Art Center in Saugerties, New York through May 8.
  • To Jason Williams (Justice Studies) and Mark Rotella (Coccia Institute), for being a part of the Montclair Literary Festival. Williams is moderating a panel of authors on transforming the broken criminal justice system and Rotella is moderating an Italian cooking and lifestyle talk.
  • To Katia Paz Goldfarb (Hispanic Initiatives), who was a panelist at the Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution Symposium. The panel, titled “The View from HSI Campuses,” also included the University of Houston, Florida International University and Cal State-Chico.
  • To Shawn Connolly and the entire University Facilities team, for hosting 400 K-5 students on Earth Day for a presentation in the Amphitheater, which included visits from Smokey the Bear and Rocky along with educational programming about conservation and sustainability.
