Federal Work Study is the opportunity for students to earn money while working on-campus. It is not guaranteed money nor a guarantee that a student will have a job on campus. Students must work on-campus in order to obtain the money in their Federal Work study award.
If a student is looking for a job on-campus they can go to the Center for Career Services and Cooperative Education and look via their Web site or in person (Morehead Hall Room 337) to see what employment opportunities are available. Please note that work study is only for students working on-campus.
If a student has not submitted a timesheet and/or has not obtained employment by October of Fall semester, their work study award will be canceled. If a student has not obtained employment by March of spring semester, their work study award will be canceled. Please note that if an award is canceled it will be given to another student and you may not be able to get it back again during that semester or academic year.
Compensation for working on-campus is determined by the department a student is working for. The Office of Student Financial Aid only determines that total amount a student can earn per semester, however the department determines how much a student earns per hour. Here is a chart of acceptable compensation amounts. Departments should note that once a student has earned their allotted work study amount for the semester and/or academic year, the student is no longer eligible to receive work study and either the student must be paid from the department's budget (therefore becoming a Student Assistant) or they can no longer work until the following semester or academic year.
