Grants

Federal Pell Grant (PELL): A federal grant for eligible students based on family resources, cost of attendance, and enrollment; award amounts are determined by a schedule developed by the U.S. Department of Education.

Federal Supplementary Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG): A grant of money provided by the federal government and awarded by Montclair State to assist undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Recipients must be eligible for a Pell grant.

Teach Grant Program (TEACH): A federal grant of up to $4000 per year to students who intend to teach in designated high-need fields in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low income families. If you receive a TEACH grant, but do not complete the required teaching service, you will be required to repay the grants as a Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, with the interest charged from the date of each TEACH Grant disbursement. Students must be admitted into the Teacher Education program to qualify for the grant.

Educational Opportunity Fund Grant (EOF): A grant of money provided by the State of New Jersey for students with exceptional financial need from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. Students must be New Jersey residents; recipients must maintain full-time (12 credits per semester) enrollment and be designated an EOF student at the time of admission. Students need to complete the Additional Application for State Aid to be eligible for this grant.

Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar/Urban Scholar (DSN/DSU): Up to a $1,000 grant provided by the State of New Jersey to academically qualified students; recipients must maintain full-time (12 credits per semester) enrollment and be New Jersey residents. *For continuing students only.

Tuition Aid Grant (TAG): A grant provided by the State of New Jersey to full-time students (12 credits per semester) who meet need criteria established by the State of New Jersey. Recipients must be New Jersey residents.  Students need to complete the Additional Application for State Aid to be eligible for this grant.

NJSTARS II: The NJ STARS II program is a continuation of the NJ STARS program that provides successful NJ STARS students at New Jersey county colleges with funding to transfer to a New Jersey Four-year public college or university to earn a bachelor's degree. The amount of the NJ STARS II award for the first two semesters of student at New Jersey four-year public college or university will be based on the student's cumulative grade point average (GPA) upon graduation from a community college. Funding for this program is contingent upon the availability of funds from NEW JERSEY Higher Education Students Assistance Authority (NJ HESAA).

NJ STARS II Requirements:

  • Must meet all admission or application requirements established by the New Jersey four-year public institution.
  • Must meet all institutional deadlines for admission and financial aid.
  • Once admitted, students must submit to the New Jersey four-year public institution a final county college transcript that reflects a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
  • Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually within established State deadlines: (www.fafsa.ed.gov)
      2011-12 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Filing Deadlines:
      June 1, 2011 for students who received a TAG award during the 2010-11 academic year
      All other applicants:
      October 1, 2011 – fall & spring terms
      March 1, 2012 – spring term only
