Our Montclair campus features 19 NCAA Division III Red Hawks athletics teams, while our Bloomfield campus features four USCAA intercollegiate athletics programs - giving you the chance to watch some of the top teams in the country throughout the year.

A School of Firsts

Throughout our history, we’ve been changemakers. 

Montclair is the first public school in New Jersey to: 

  • Offer master’s degrees
  • Offer multiple doctoral programs
  • Install an innovative microgrid that can function independently and generate its own electrical power
  • Establish a first-of-its-kind online graduate-level certificate titled “Harm Reduction Approaches to Substance Use

And the first in the country to:

  • Achieve the first merger between a public university and a private college when we merged with Bloomfield College in 2023, ensuring that Bloomfield’s important mission continues
  • Launch our own streaming service, Hawk Plus, in our College of Communication and Media
