The Montclair campus sits just 12 miles from Manhattan in the towns of Montclair, Clifton and Little Falls, New Jersey. Our Bloomfield campus is 14 miles from Midtown, giving you two areas with mass transit options that will take you to the heart of the city.
Big Campus, Small Feel
Sitting atop a hill overlooking the New York City skyline, Montclair’s 252-acre suburban campus gives you the resources of a large research university with a sense of belonging normally found at smaller schools. Our Bloomfield campus provides an even more intimate setting, giving you the best of both worlds.

Student Enrollment
Our campuses currently boast a total enrollment of 23,546 across undergraduate and graduate students - 18,062 undergrads and 4,508 graduate students. We’ve got big school resources with a small-school community where everyone belongs.
Small Class Sizes
Our 17-1 student-to-teacher ratio makes the average class size at Montclair just 24 students. Your professors will know your name, and will push you to be your best while supporting you every step of the way.
NCAA Division III and USCAA Athletics
Our Montclair campus features 19 NCAA Division III Red Hawks athletics teams, while our Bloomfield campus features four USCAA intercollegiate athletics programs - giving you the chance to watch some of the top teams in the country throughout the year.
A School of Firsts
Throughout our history, we’ve been changemakers.
Montclair is the first public school in New Jersey to:
- Offer master’s degrees
- Offer multiple doctoral programs
- Install an innovative microgrid that can function independently and generate its own electrical power
- Establish a first-of-its-kind online graduate-level certificate titled “Harm Reduction Approaches to Substance Use”
And the first in the country to:
- Achieve the first merger between a public university and a private college when we merged with Bloomfield College in 2023, ensuring that Bloomfield’s important mission continues
- Launch our own streaming service, Hawk Plus, in our College of Communication and Media
