International Application Options
International Freshman Students
If you are still completing high school or secondary school, or have finished high school/secondary school and attempted fewer than 16 university-level credits, you may apply for admission as an international freshman student.
International Undergraduate Transfer Students
Montclair considers you a transfer student if you have attempted 16 or more credits at an accredited college or university after graduating high school or earning a high school diploma equivalent. Review our Transfer FAQs for answers to common transfer admission questions.
International Graduate Students
If you have already completed a bachelor’s degree and are interested in pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree, you may apply for admission as an international graduate student.
Costs, Scholarships & Assistantships
Montclair remains committed to making education affordable for international students, regardless of country of origin. As a public institution, Montclair cannot offer need-based financial aid to international students, so unless you receive a merit-based scholarship or assistantship, you should plan to cover the full cost of attendance. International students in F‑1 or J‑1 status are charged out‑of‑state tuition.
Why Montclair?
Montclair’s international students are employed on Optional Practical Training (OPT) – temporary, post‑graduation work authorization for F‑1 international students – within two months of graduation.
Dreaming Bigger Than Home
A lot of people were surprised when I decided to leave Austria and study outside the country, but it was my dream to go to the U.S., to be in a new environment close to New York and to meet new people.
