Your Journey, Our Guidance and Support

Choose from one of four Discovery Tracks that align with your passion and values, and you’ll find that through dedicated advising, hands-on exploration, and exposure to a wide range of majors and careers, you'll gain the clarity and confidence to make informed decisions about your future. Bring your curiosity — we'll help you discover where it can take you.

How the Discovery Program works

The Discovery Program is your chance to explore your options and figure out what major is the best fit for you. It’s a hands-on, personalized experience designed to guide you from the moment you apply to Montclair all the way to declaring your major as a student. Think of it as your step-by-step game plan for discovering what you want to study and where you want to go.

As a new student at Montclair, you have the freedom to shape your own path. You’ll choose a Discovery Track based on your interests, strengths and future goals:

  1. Arts, Culture and Design
  2. Business, Mathematics and Technology
  3. Health, Medicine and the Sciences
  4. Social Justice, Public Service and the Humanities

(Please note: If you’re interested in a career in teaching, you can pursue Teacher Education Certification through any of the four Discovery Tracks by selecting a Track that best aligns with your teaching interests and goals.)

During your first semester at Montclair, you’ll participate in coursework that reflects the theme of your selected Discovery Track and fulfills SEEDS General Education Requirements, offering you a firsthand glimpse into your future major. One highlight is the New Student Seminar, which will facilitate your transition into the University, forge strong connections with your academic advisor and help foster a sense of belonging within the Discovery Program and at Montclair. It is designed to engage you intellectually and socially, while supporting and informing your major exploration journey.
