Montclair’s Minor in Asian Languages is an 18-credit program where you study two Asian languages in one flexible curriculum. Choose one of Chinese, Japanese or Korean as your primary concentration and add one of the other two as your secondary language, building language proficiency in both.
- Focus your studies: Select Chinese, Japanese, or Korean as your primary language concentration
- Broaden your expertise: Pursue a secondary language from Chinese, Japanese or Korean for dual-language proficiency
- Take courses at every level – from beginner to advanced – in both languages, boosting communication skills and intercultural awareness
- Explore engaging electives such as Contemporary Chinese Cinema and Society, Japanese Conversation and Culture, Conversational Korean through K-Pop and Popular Culture, and more

How Language Opened My World
Pamela Hernandez was awarded the prestigious C.Y. Tung Scholarship ($25,000) to join the Semester at Sea program, a study abroad voyage partnering with the United Nations Association of the USA to more than a dozen countries across three continents, dedicated to fostering global understanding.
As an Asian Languages minor, learning Chinese and Korean opened my eyes to the richness of other communities and inspired me to become a bridge between cultures. These languages have deepened my appreciation for cultural exchange and meaningful dialogue.
