In the Arabic major, you’ll take language courses at any level, from beginner to heritage speaker. Then, choose electives in Arabic literature, translation, culture, and history to round out your studies and meet core requirements.

Why Arabic?

Arabic is one of the most sought after languages in the U.S and is categorized as a “critical language” by the U.S. State Department. Arabic speakers are in high demand, creating various scholarships for language study in the U.S. and overseas. The Middle East’s growing importance in international affairs has also led to an increased need for Arabic speakers, especially in the Western world, where there is a shortage of qualified persons who are fluent in the Arabic language and understand the culture.
