Montclair’s Journalism and Digital Media program will prepare you to create powerful, accurate stories for today’s fast-paced media world. You’ll learn to write, report, and produce content for television, radio, the web, social media and emerging platforms.

Core courses in news writing, multimedia production, field reporting, and ethics will sharpen your storytelling and critical thinking skills. You’ll also explore exciting electives like The Entertainment Beat, Cross-Platform Sports Writing, Media Entrepreneurship, and Apps for Journalists to build expertise in areas that match your interests.

You’ll train in our high-definition studios and newsrooms, learning from faculty with decades of real-world experience who are dedicated to your growth. Outside the classroom, internships and practicum experiences will connect you with industry professionals and give you a head start in your career.

Explore the Possibilities

Within our Journalism and Digital Media program, you can dive deeper into the field with our Undergraduate Certificates in Spanish Language Journalism and our International Diploma in Journalism and Digital media. You can also pursue this subject area as a minor.

This 15-credit program features five courses offered by Montclair’s Department of Spanish and Latino Studies and College of Communication and Media.

Choose one course to dive deeper into the Spanish language, another to learn more about Hispanic culture, and three journalism courses – two on reporting entirely in Spanish – to earn an undergraduate certificate in this rapidly growing part of the field.

This one-year, 30-credit program combines courses that showcase the best the College of Communication and Media has to offer while taking you abroad.

Choose from electives that dive into the concepts, tools and techniques you’ll need to thrive as a modern journalist, and learn different styles of writing as you hone your skills in podcasting, finding your own media persona and how to report from the field.

But that’s not all. To conclude your experience, you’ll travel abroad in your final semester to tackle real stories in another part of the world during Spring Break.

Our minor in Journalism and Digital Media focuses on developing the writing, reporting, interviewing and research skills needed to tell stories across several media platforms, including print/digital, television and mobile devices.
