At Montclair State University, the BS in Exercise Science gives you the scientific foundation and hands-on experience to thrive in today’s health, fitness and sports industries. This multi-disciplinary program draws from anatomy, physiology, psychology, biomechanics, and motor control to help you understand how the body responds to exercise and movement. 

You’ll gain practical skills in fitness evaluation, exercise program design, and functional movement instruction—all while working in our state-of-the-art laboratories, including the 2,400-square-foot Exercise Science Lab, Biochemistry Lab, Athletic Training Lab, and Motion Visual Behavior Lab. With customizable electives and research opportunities, you can tailor your degree to match your career goals. 

Graduates are prepared for careers as exercise physiologists, strength and conditioning specialists, wellness coordinators, or for advanced study in fields like physical therapy, athletic training, medicine, and physician associate programs.

Combined Programs

Accelerate your future with Montclair’s combined degree programs. You have an opportunity to earn a 5-year combined BS/MS programs in Exercise Science/Athletic Training or Exercise Science and Sport Studies.

Our Exercise Science/Athletic Training (Combined BS/MS) at Montclair State University prepares you to design and implement effective fitness and injury-prevention programs. You’ll gain a strong foundation in exercise science, anatomy and biomechanics while developing hands-on skills in health, fitness and rehabilitation. 

This pathway is ideal if you want to pursue advanced study in Athletic Training and sports medicine. Through Montclair’s MS in Athletic Training, you can take advantage of accelerated options, hybrid instruction, and state-of-the-art labs to earn your graduate degree faster. With this combined pathway, you’ll be ready for careers in sports medicine, strength and conditioning, clinical exercise physiology or continue to professional healthcare programs.

The combined BS in Exercise Science and MS in Kinesiology at Montclair State University is an accelerated, five-year pathway that lets you earn both degrees faster and at a lower cost. Designed for motivated students, this program allows you to take graduate-level “swing courses” in your fourth year, giving you early access to advanced training and research opportunities. 

With a focus on exercise physiology, biomechanics and sport science, you’ll build the expertise needed for careers in clinical exercise physiology, strength and conditioning and advanced exercise training roles. This pathway is also ideal preparation for doctoral programs or professional healthcare careers.
