Molecular Biology
- BS
- Major
The BS in Molecular Biology offers a focused, research-driven foundation in genetics, cell biology, and biochemical processes that govern life at the molecular level. With coursework spanning microbiology, molecular genetics, immunology, and virology, you’ll gain the tools needed to explore everything from gene expression to biomedical applications. The program emphasizes hands-on lab experience and advanced methods in molecular research, preparing you for a career in biotech, pharmaceuticals, research labs, and other health professions.
Montclair’s proximity to New York City offers access to world-class internship opportunities and cutting-edge collaborations. The degree also lays the groundwork for graduate study in biomedical sciences, bioinformatics, or medical school. You’ll benefit from small class sizes, faculty mentorship, and the opportunity to participate in faculty-led research. The program is STEM-designated.
Student Research Opportunities
This program is built around deep engagement with experimental biology and lab-based techniques. You’ll explore cellular and molecular processes through a curriculum that includes Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and electives such as Neurobiology and Virology. Lab work is central to the program, helping you master DNA/RNA analysis, protein chemistry, and immunotechniques. Customize your remaining electives to include additional lab experience, or leverage the required faculty-led research experience, or an internship, to help you build your portfolio for graduate school or careers in biotechnology.
