If you have an interest in global affairs and U.S. foreign policy and want to learn about current practices in international diplomacy, then the minor in Global Security and Diplomacy may be for you!

Through the Global Security and Diplomacy minor, you can deepen your knowledge about the study and practice of security and diplomacy, statecraft in the context of deep economic interdependence, geopolitics, and the politics of resource acquisition and exploitation. Study and learn about:

  • Intricacies of international diplomacy
  • Complexities of the 21st-century security environment
  • Analysis of military challenges, the intricacies of economic interdependence, and security implications of energy dependence and resource scarcity
  • Regional studies of industrialized and emerging market societies
  • International law from both legal and political perspectives
  • Causes and dynamics of peace and security
  • Preventing, managing and resolving conflict
  • Alliance formation, defense planning, civil-military relations and war termination

This 18-credit minor is open to students of any major and is particularly suited to those studying Political Science. There are three required courses (International Security and Diplomacy, International Relations, and Globalization and Security) and the remaining three courses are electives so you can choose the courses that interest you most!
