How to Apply to the Teacher Education Program
To apply to the Teacher Education Program, students must be enrolled at Montclair and meet the required credits and GPA outlined for their selected program. First-year incoming students must apply to an eligible major and begin their teacher education application process once the eligibility requirements are met.

Whether you're pursuing single certification or a combined Bachelor’s/Master’s with dual certification, we’re here to guide you through every step of the Teacher Education admissions process.
Deadlines:
- For Fall Start Term (Single & Dual Certification): February 1st
- For Spring Start Term (Single Certification only): September 15th
Note: Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s with Dual Certification applicants may only begin in the fall and will adhere to the February 1st deadline.

Review Eligibility Criteria
Requirements vary slightly by certification path. All applicants must meet the following to be considered:
- Admission to Montclair State University – via Undergraduate Admissions
- GPA Requirements:
- 3.0 for Single Certification
- 3.25 for Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s Dual Certification
- Prerequisite Coursework:
- P-3 & K-6 Certifications - 3 courses
- P-12 Certification - 2 courses
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Supplemental Requirements
Applicants who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement for full admission, whose GPA is 0.25 points below the overall/major GPA requirement, are automatically reviewed as supplemental applicants and must submit a Supplemental Essay as part of their application.
Single Certification:
Students with an overall and/or major GPA between 2.75 and 2.99 will be considered supplemental applicants.Dual Certification (Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s):
Students with an overall and/or major GPA between 3.0 and 3.24 will be considered supplemental applicants.
The Supplemental Essay prompt is included in the Teacher Education application.

- Admission Essay(s)
- Single Certification - 1 required essay
- Dual Certification - 2 required essays

- Resume
- Letter of Recommendation
- Must be from a college-level professor
- Students must follow up to ensure it is submitted by the deadline
