Billy Hart is one of the most influential jazz drummers of his generation, celebrated for his versatility across straight-ahead, avant-garde, and popular styles. He has released 12 albums as a leader and appeared on more than 600 recordings, working with legends such as Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Stan Getz, and Charles Lloyd. A founding member of Quest and a longtime member of the Cookers, Hart also leads his own acclaimed quartet. Born in Washington, D.C., he began performing as a teenager with Buck Hill and Shirley Horn before touring in the 1960s with Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery, and Eddie Harris. Since then, his career has spanned collaborations with both jazz icons and experimental innovators.
