Advance your career and become a leader in clinical social work practice with Montclair State University’s Online Master of Social Work (MSW) program.
With a focus on children, youth and families in diverse communities, our 60-credit program prepares graduates to solve complex problems by forming relationships, assessing information, developing interventions in conjunction with clients and evaluating the effectiveness of the interventions. They are also prepared to advocate for justice with communities, agencies, and society. We are currently seeking CSWE accreditation for our online MSW program.
Students progress through the curriculum together, developing close relationships with peers and faculty. Synchronous and asynchronous learning, coupled with in-person supervised practicum experiences—which require 2-3 weekday commitments per week—position students to gain invaluable experiences at mental health clinics, hospitals, private clinical practices, substance abuse clinics, schools and more.

Online Harm Reduction Certificate
This 9-credit certificate program introduces students to the concept of harm reduction, discusses a range of related services and programs and offers practical training on non-stigmatizing, social justice-oriented, and trauma-informed engagement strategies with people who use drugs.
Online Certificate in Data Collection and Management
As a 12-credit, STEM-designated certificate option, this program builds skills to begin or advance your career in areas like market research, social policy analysis, education, health, politics, social services and more.
Online Child Advocacy Certificate
This 15-credit graduate program provides a multi-disciplinary understanding of the role of the child advocate as seen through the lenses of law, social work and psychology. This unique perspective equips graduates with the training that will enhance their skills in a variety of settings.
