Community Assistant Fire Academy Video Information:

In August 2012, Montclair State University’s Department of Fire Safety held the first annual Community Assistant Fire Academy at the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute.  This "Academy" gave students a unique, tangible lesson in fire safety, giving them the opportunity to feel the effects of a fire within a building.  The "Academy" was the first of its kind in New Jersey.

Montclair State University would like to thank the staff at the "Bergen County Fire Academy" for their tireless efforts at making this academy possible.

 After the Fire Video Information:

On January 19, 2000, a fire ravaged Boland Hall, a freshman residence hall on the campus of Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. As a result of the fire, three students, Aaron Karol, Frank Caltabilota, and John Giunta, died. Fifty-eight other students, including Shawn Simons and Alvaro Llanos, were injured. Robin Gaby Fisher, the award winning author of After the Fire, a book which discusses the struggle of Shawn and Alvaro as they recovered from their both their psychological and physical wounds inflicted during the Boland Hall fire, visited the campus of Montclair State University to discuss the seriousness of fires in residence halls.
