Montclair State Receives 2019 Scorecard from Energy Star’s Higher Education Benchmarking Initiative

During 2020, Montclair State participated in the ENERGY STAR® Higher Education Benchmarking Initiative (HEBI). The HEBI analysis examined energy & water usage data from 2019 across over 100 colleges & universities, taking into consideration an institution’s enrollment, Carnegie ranking, and other factors so it could group like institutions for comparison.

We are pleased to announce that we have received our HEBI Scorecard!

Campus Source Energy Use Intensity (kBtu/ft²):

  • Montclair State’s EUI: 219.4
  • Median Source EUI: 188.9
  • Montclair State ranked 16 out of the 21 R2: Doctoral Universities with high research activity that submitted energy usage data.

Campus Water Use Intensity (gal/ft²):

  • Montclair State’s WUI: 32.0
  • Median Source WUI: 24.3
  • Montclair State ranked 15 out of the 18 R2: Doctoral Universities with high research activity that submitted water usage data.
