Anna Feldman

Biography

Anna Feldman is Professor and Chair of Linguistics at Montclair State University, with a joint appointment in Linguistics and Computer Science. She received her B.A. and M.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics from The Ohio State University.

Professor Feldman's research lies at the intersection of linguistics and artificial intelligence. She investigates how large language models represent meaning across languages, with a focus on multilingual natural language processing, low-resource languages, figurative language, and computational semantics. Her recent work explores how AI systems process context-dependent language, how knowledge transfers across languages, and how linguistic and cultural differences can be better represented in language technologies. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and has resulted in multilingual datasets, benchmarks, and evaluation frameworks that advance both computational linguistics and AI.

Professor Feldman directs the NLP Lab at Montclair State University, an interdisciplinary research group where faculty, undergraduate students, graduate students, and collaborators investigate questions at the intersection of linguistics, artificial intelligence, and cognitive science. The lab develops computational models of language and explores how language technologies can better represent the diversity and complexity of human language.
