Biography

Dr. Cyril S. Ku serves as a Research Scientist with the Healthcare Approaches to Justice Collaborative (HAJC) at Montclair State University and is a Professor of Computer Science at William Paterson University. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, USA, where he specialized in deductive databases. Prior to his academic career, he spent more than a decade in industry at leading organizations, including Bellcore (Bell Communications Research), AT&T, and IBM, gaining extensive experience in applied computing and systems development.

At William Paterson University, Dr. Ku served two consecutive terms as Chairperson of the Computer Science Department, during which he led the department through its first successful ABET accreditation. He is the founder and director of the Data Science Research Lab, where his research focuses on data science, big data analytics, natural language processing, data and text mining, machine learning, and software engineering. He has served as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on multiple major grants, including projects totaling $3.3 million in funding from the National Science Foundation, as well as projects funded by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.

In 2026, Dr. Ku received William Paterson University’s Faculty Excellence in Research, Scholarship, and Creative Expression Award.
