Heather Craner

Biography

I am an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Montclair State University, where I have worked for over 13 years, supporting graduate students in literacy education. Much of my work is centered in the Summer Literacy Program, where I work with future reading specialists and help bridge research and practice in meaningful, classroom-centered ways.

In addition to my work in higher education, I serve as an elementary reading specialist, a role that continues to inform my approach to teaching and mentoring. My research focuses on the academic and interpersonal experiences of neurodivergent preservice teachers, with an emphasis on how teacher preparation programs can better support diverse learners. I am committed to advancing inclusive, equitable practices that prepare future educators to support students from a wide range of backgrounds and learning profiles.
