Biography

Professor Jun Hierholzer is an interdisciplinary designer, educator, and researcher whose background spans industrial design, new media, and graphic design. Her work examines how emerging technologies reshape design practice and communication.

Her professional work includes interface design, branding, and print design projects for Springer International Publishing, Juniper Networks, The McGraw-Hill Companies, Dell, L'Oréal China, and Expo 2010 Shanghai. Her work has been recognized internationally with the Willy Guhl Prize from the Swiss Design Centre and honors from the Asia Graphic Design Biennale, the Art Directors Club, Creativity Annual, the American Pixel Academy, and the Communicator Awards.

Professor Hierholzer is the author of Motion: Imagination. Creation. Technique (Shanghai Fine Arts Publishing House, 2010) and Vision Redefined: Visual Communication Design in the Age of AI (Tongji University Press, 2026), which proposes a human-centered framework for design in the age of AI. In 2025, she was a Visiting Scholar at Waseda University in Tokyo and delivered the keynote address at the M-Scope 2025 Symposium hosted by the College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University, where she remains a visiting affiliate.

At Montclair State University, Professor Hierholzer serves as the program head of the BFA in Graphic Design. She teaches UI/UX design, thesis, and portfolio courses, preparing students to navigate a rapidly evolving design profession.
