Math and Creativity with students of STEM Center Africa

Over the Spring of 2022, STEM Corps fellows work with students in STEM Center in Kenya of ages 8-12 on a weekly basis to engage them in fun activities in math and science. The objective of this project is to promote creativity in our approach to mathematics and science thinking among students and to view learning as ‘play’. STEM Corps fellows designed a curriculum which included: Mathematical thinking through Scratch Programming; Science of Paper Aircrafts and learning mathematics through playing games. This is an ongoing project and we continue to look for fellows who will build new innovative curriculum to work with new cohorts of students in Kenya.

A Curriculum for Math & Peace

We are initiating an exciting project with the non-profit organization, Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI). STEM Corps fellows working on this project will work on developing a short course on Math and Critical Thinking for Peace Negotiators. The course will train the stakeholders in peace and conflict resolution processes around the world on understanding data, statistics and other useful mathematical tools so they may be empowered to make critical decisions and choices in their role as mediators.
