Montclair State University Makes Transferring Easier with Direct Admission
As New Jersey’s first public college to join Phi Theta Kappa’s direct admission program, Montclair offers eligible community college honor students a simpler path to admission and an exclusive $2,000 annual scholarship
Montclair State University’s new direct admission option gives eligible Phi Theta Kappa members a simpler path to transferring, with no application fee and an exclusive $2,000 annual scholarship.
Montclair State University is the first public college in New Jersey to partner with Phi Theta Kappa’s Direct Admission program, giving eligible community college honor students a simpler path to a bachelor’s degree.
Through PTK Connect, the honor society’s college and scholarship search platform, eligible members can receive an admission offer from Montclair without submitting a traditional application.
The new option builds on Montclair’s Transfer Credit Equivalent Database, which lets prospective students preview how their previous coursework may count toward a degree before they apply. Together, these resources help students understand their admission options and plan their next steps.
“Transfer students have already invested time and effort in their education. Our job is to help them move forward,” says Jordanna Maziarz, Montclair’s senior director of Undergraduate Admissions.
"Direct admission removes a step from the admissions process, while our credit preview tool helps students understand how their coursework may apply. We want students to see a clear path to completing their degree at Montclair.”
Who is Eligible?
The PTK Direct Admission offer is available to eligible domestic transfer students seeking fall or spring entry into online or on-campus degree programs. Nursing, performing arts and design programs are excluded.

How to Get Started
PTK members can access Montclair’s direct admission option through their member dashboard:
- Sign in to PTK Connect and select “Find Colleges.”
- Filter for “Offers Direct Admission for PTK Members.”
- Find Montclair State University and select the Direct Admissions icon to indicate interest.
Students should then follow Montclair’s instructions for any additional materials or enrollment steps.
