Advanced Certificate in Music Education

The Advanced Certificate in Music Education is designed for certified K–12 music teachers who want to take their practice to the next level. In this 15-credit, fast-track program, you’ll explore a blend of theory and hands-on learning, gaining tools to engage and inspire students across diverse music classrooms. 

Throughout the program, you’ll dive into topics like how students learn music, creative movement, and approaches for teaching learners with special needs. You’ll also explore global music traditions and strategies for encouraging critical and creative thinking, all while developing practical skills to bring into your classroom. 

You’ll gain individual attention from internationally recognized scholars and practitioners, as well as valuable interactions with other professionals in the field. You’ll advance your work, whether as a music educator in K–12 schools, an ensemble director, private instructor or music program administrator. If you’re ready to further develop yourself into the educator you know you can be and make an impact through music education, then this program is for you.

Admissions Requirements

  • Equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicants with non-U.S. degrees: Please visit the international applicants page to review U.S. degree equivalency information.
  • Before applying, you must have earned a U.S. music teaching certificate or completed an alternate route music education program.
  • *F1/J1 visa seeking students are not eligible for this program.

Application Checklist

  • Application Deadline: Rolling admission.
  • Online Application: Submit application and $60 non-refundable fee (or waiver if applicable).
  • Transcript: One from each college attended.
  • Teacher Certification: Music (standard or alternate route).
  • Equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
