What makes people tick?

Why do we think, feel, and act the way we do? How do childhood experiences shape who we become? Why do we help some people and ignore others?

If you’re always curious about what’s going on in people’s heads — including your own — psychology might be the perfect path for you.

What is Psychology?

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behavior — from how we develop as individuals to how we function in relationships and society. Psychologists ask big questions about memory, motivation, mental health, emotions, and decision-making to better understand what makes us human.

As a psychology major, you’ll learn how to analyze human behavior, understand thought patterns and emotions, and apply that knowledge to real-world situations — in the workplace, in relationships, and in your community. See the curriculum.

Minor in Psychology

The Psychology minor helps you explore human behavior through courses in cognition, development, personality, and social interaction. You’ll also examine topics like abnormal psychology and research methods, learning how scientists study the mind and behavior. Along the way, you’ll sharpen your skills in analysis, communication, and problem-solving while gaining insights into what drives human decisions and relationships.

What Can You Do With a Degree In Psychology?

At Bloomfield, psychology students build powerful skills in communication, critical thinking, problem solving, emotional intelligence, and research — tools that apply far beyond the classroom.

Many graduates go on to become therapists, counselors, or social workers, helping people heal and grow. Others pursue advanced degrees or pair psychology with an MBA to lead teams and navigate complex workplaces.

And because psychology is all about understanding people, your skills can also take you into marketing, advertising, user experience, public relations, or human resources — any field where knowing what makes people tick gives you an edge.
