What is the Student Government Association?
The Student Government Association is a non-profit organization at Montclair run by student leaders and committed to elevating the student experience. Operating with a $1.8 million budget, Student Government is a combination of programming and government, working closely with the Administration to serve the student body and have a positive impact on campus.
Student Government comprises three branches (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial) and works to represent the student population to the Administration, vote on bills to support and assist students, and uphold the Constitution of the association. Two programming boards within Student Government are responsible for overseeing:
- Major campus events such as Homecoming Week, Winter Gala, Spring Bash, live concerts and theatrical programming all tailored to suit the budgetary needs of the average college student, as well as smaller-scale gatherings that are open and free for all students.
- More than 100 student-run organizations (Academic, Cultural, Social and Special Interest).

Quick History of SGA @ Montclair
The Student Government Association (SGA) was formed in 1925 as the “Student Council” and became a non-profit organization in 1934 known as the Student Government Association. The SGA is independent from the University and is composed of three separate but equal bodies: The Executive Branch, The Legislative Branch and The Judicial Branch.
