Math Department Involved in New Wind Turbine Research
Posted in: Faculty and Student Research
With funding from the NJ Economic Development Authority, the Math Department Faculty, Dr. Ashwin Vaidya and students, Kevin Vargas and Maraiana Pereira, are working with Industrial Designer and proprietor of the company S-Wind, Sevdalin Semov, to test new designs for a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (or VAWT). Experiments and simulations are being conducted by the research team in the Complex Fluids Laboratory at Montclair State University to optimize the design for maximum energy harnessing. Recently, a larger version of the S-Wind turbine has been placed on campus to better understand its functioning in urban environments.
You can find one sitting just outside Lot 60 on Clove Road. Feel free to drive by and take a look.
