Easy Hike - Columbia Trail

Looking for a nice day out with your friends? Join us on an easy hike at Ken Lockwood Gorge in Hunterdon County. This 3.5 mile hike follows the path of a historical railroad and even a series of mysterious gnome villages! This is no April Fool's Day Prank.

What to bring: Water, good walking shoes (sneakers acceptable), bug spray, and layered weather appropriate clothing.
Potential Hazards: Unpredictable weather changes, sunburn/heat exhaustion, dehydration, allergic reactions/poisonous plants, insect bites, injuries; sprains, lacerations, abrasions or fractures.

Learn horseback riding basics at the Spring Valley Equestrian Center, located in Newton, NJ. We'll go on a gorgeous trail ride through beautiful fields and trails with fantastic views of the Appalachian Trail Ridge to High Point.




Hammock Day

Full Moon Hike

Strap on a head lamp and enjoy this late-night hike under the light of the moon with the Manhattan skyline at the end! Registration begins on January 16.




CANCELLED -- Advanced Hike Balsam Mountain

Tighten up your laces and hike with us to the top of Balsam Mountain! This advanced hike is 4.35 miles and gains over 1500 feet in elevation. The challenge of this trail is met with the reward of a east-facing, panoramic view of Big Indian State Park. Hiking boots are strongly recommended but sneakers are acceptable.




2017 Red Hawk Color Blast

The 14th Red Hawk Run Color Blast is a thrilling 5K open to participants of all backgrounds. The event this year will benefit the newly established Montclair State University On-Campus Food Pantry. Based on a campus survey, food insecurity showed up as a real struggle for a significant number of students. All proceeds for this event will be donated towards the On-Campus Food Pantry to assist those in need. The first 100 people to register will receive a t-shirt for the event!

Take a trip to the city to see the New York Mets take on the Marlins! Get your tickets from the Student Recreation Center main office before they run out! The bus will leave promptly at 4:30 p.m., the game begins at 7 p.m. Registration begins on March 23 - April 6.




Moderate Hike - Black River

Join us for an intermediate loop of 6.4 miles that takes place along the scenic Black River in Morris County. This trail follows an abandoned railroad corridor, and includes the old Hacklebarney Mine and ends at the Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center. Get ready for a spectacular gorge and secluded waterfalls.

Come play soccer in the gym while wrapped in a bubble with just your legs exposed. The game is played like normal but players can also run into each other and bounce off. The best strawberries are the ones you pick yourself. Start off your summer right and fill up a basket of strawberries at the Sussex County Strawberry Farm! Fun Fact - One cup of fresh strawberries has only 55 calories. With that said, feel free to load up and have a good time!

Hike-In Movie

This trip is Outdoor Adventure's take on the classic drive-in movie. Before the movie we are going to hike in Sterling State Forest along the McKeags Meadow trail for 2.75 miles. So sit back relax and don't forget the popcorn! Students will have a choice of which movie to watch.

What to bring: Water, spending money, bug spray, sunscreen, layered clothing, good shoes (sneakers are acceptable, NO FLIP FLOPS).

A short summer hike in Allamuchy State Park followed by a dip in Lake Hopatcong. Allamuchy State Park has many trails that traverse the natural area and provide access to scenic waterways. Did you know that Lake Hopatcong is the largest freshwater body in New Jersey?

What to Bring: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes, water, packed lunch, bug spray, sunblock, layered clothing.

Asbury Park Bike Trip

Let Hawk-on-Wheels treat you to a FREE bicycle rental so you can cruise along the boardwalk from Belmar to Asbury Park. Kayak Trip

Enjoy a relaxing day paddling down the Delaware River and learn some basic kayaking skills. Leaving from Frenchtown, NJ, this full-day trip will provide you with a chance to enjoy the warm, clear waters of the longest un-dammed river east of the Mississippi. We provide the boats, lifejackets and paddles, but be prepared to get wet.

What to Bring: Water Shoes or old pair of sneakers; change of shoes; backpack; water; sunscreen; bug spray; towel; hat with brim (optional, but recommended); sunglasses; snacks.

Travel back in time this summer at The Mets Cloisters! Explore the extensive collection of medieval art and architecture. Like kings and queens stroll through medieval gardens situated on four acres in New York City’s Fort Tyron Park with panoramic views of Hudson River.

Backpacking Trip

Calling all adventurers: this trip will be a true Outdoor Adventure! Spend the weekend outdoors exploring the wilderness in Harriman State Park. We will cover 8 miles over the course of the weekend. Enjoy the sun and water floating on this leisurely down the Delaware River in Hunterdon County. This leisurely trip will allow you to swim, take in the scenery and relax as you drift down the river from Frenchtown, NJ. Lifejackets are provided, so strong swimming skills are not mandatory.
