Project Recess

Join the Recreation Center in Project Recess for a night full of food, fun and friends. What better way to start off college than going back in time to your younger years! There will be different events and activities in every room, as well as food, raffles with cool prizes, and most importantly, fun!

Fitball

Fit Ball is a semester long incentive program for GroupX participants. Participants are awarded 5 yards for every fitness class that they take, and 10 yards for every event they participate in. Prizes will be awarded every time a participant completes a touchdown.

Special points will be awarded for attending select fitness events. Participants will earn 5 yards for taking a group fitness class!

GroupX Preview

Group Fitness Preview week is a two day event that takes place in the MPRs. Instructors will provide 20 minute demos of some of the classes that will be offered throughout the semester. Light refreshments will be offered to patrons (granola bars & bottled water). Patrons will also have the opportunity to sign-up for Fitball, a semester long event that awards participants prizes after completion.

Details: An easy to moderate biking trip on the Paulinskill Valley Trail, located in beautiful Sussex county. The Paulinskill Valley Trail is a converted railroad line, which means the path has steady, easy climbs with little change in elevation.
What to Bring: water, lunch, comfortable riding shoes (not flip-flops)
Potential Hazards: unpredictable weather changes, sunburn/heat exhaustion, dehydration, allergic reactions/poisonous plants, insect bites, injury including sprains, lacerations, abrasions and fractures

Drop-In Hike

Details: Short, easy hike in Montclair, NJ. Leaving from the Panzer Athletic Center, participants will get to a local nature preserve very close to campus.

What to Bring: Water, good shoes (sneakers acceptable), and bug spray.

Petting Zoo

Have a fun and relaxing time while taking a break between classes to come see a petting zoo! The petting zoo will be set up in the Student Center Quad for everyone on campus to come see and pet live animals for free.

Hawk on Wheels Poker Ride

Participants are given a free Hawk On Wheels bicycle to use for the event. Ride to 5 stations located throughout campus and draw a playing card at each station. Build the best (or worst) poker hand and win a prize! This event is not timed, but more for the enjoyment of riding bikes across campus and increasing awareness of bicycle transportation. The event will have rolling starts beginning with the first departure at 2:00pm and the final departure at 5:30pm for the safety of the participants.

Remembrance Hike

Spaghetti Social

Fall A Registration Deadline

This is the registration deadline for the sports offered for the first half of the fall semester. These sports include Flag Football, Indoor Soccer, Wiffleball, and Table Tennis. Each sport costs $10 for each individual to play (which can be paid in the main office), or $60 for a Greek Team or organization. There will also be a captain's meeting in the evening.

Intramural Kickoff

This event is to kick off the Fall 2015 intramural season. There will be food, games, a DJ, and a raffle for this event. Hamsterball Mania

Free event to try out giant hamster balls in the pool! Does not require that you get wet, only requires that you bring workout clothes (shorts, sweats, yoga pants are all ok - jeans are not). Purpose of the event is to race against your friends and the rec staff in giant, inflatable hamster balls in the pool. You can collide with each other, or simply run around to try and get to the other side as quickly as possible. This fun and unique event has can only be found at the Student Recreation Center. Snacks will be offered. No registration required!

Yankees Game Trip

Horseback Riding

Yoga Glow

Yoga Glow is an event held in the Student Center Ballrooms where participants take a yoga class held by our instructors in the dark, illuminated only by black lights, glow sticks, and glow jewelry. There will be one session, from 7:30-8:30pm. Students may line up at 7:00pm. The first 100 people to register will receive a free t-shirt. Pre-registration is highly recommended to reserve a spot.

Dive-In Movie: Part 1

Enjoy a relaxing movie floating in the Student Recreation Center Pool. This semester's feature is: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. While we can't provide brooms to float through the air, feel free to float in a boat or on a noodle in the heated pool. Free popcorn and cotton candy will be provided. Make sure to bring your bathing suit regardless of your choice to swim or use a float!

Fright Fest

Camping Trip

Details: Overnight camping trip to Stokes State Park. Camping can take place in tents or in cabins. Event will begin with a 3 mile hike, downhill. We will then prepare dinner, including healthy grilled vegetables, followed by s'mores, and an open fire. We will be returning to Montclair State University on Sunday.

What to Bring: Sturdy shoes, bedding, toiletries, and empty water bottles. NO ALCOHOL PERMITTED.

Whitewater Rafting

Details: Moderate to advanced level white water rafting on the Lehigh River. A hotdog BBQ provided after, free of charge. Half - or full wetsuits can be rented from the organization. Half is $6, full is $12, and jacket is $4.

Details: A moderate to strenuous 4.1 mile hike along the NJ-NY state line; some steep inclines and rock scrambles lead to stunning views of Greenwood Lake and NYC on a clear day; hike also stops along Surprise Lake and covers a short section of the Appalachian Trail.

Hydro-Quidditch is a team event with 7 participants on each team, playing various positions within the sport. Event will be tournament style, set as single-game elimination. Each team will supply different positions, and points are scored for both shooting the ball through the hoop, and for catching the snitch.

Cardboard Canoe Races

Teams of 3 to 4 will be given an equal amount of cardboard, a pair of scissors, and a roll of duct tape. Each team will have 1 hour to construct their own cardboard canoe using those materials. Once complete, the team will put 1 member in the canoe, and race across the pool. The team with the most laps in 10 minutes (or before the boat sinks) will win the grand prize, a Google Chromecast. Second place will win a free Outdoor Recreation trip for the entire team (each person can choose). Light food provided during the constructions phase.

Faculty Staff Family Swim

You may bring up to 4 guests to the pool area only for no fee. This event is open to alumni, students, faculty, and staff, but all must have a valid ID.

Palisades Mall Trip

  • Date: December 3
  • Time: Bus leaves at 3:30 p.m.
  • Location: Student Recreation Center
  • Registration: Campus Recreation main office
  • Cost: Student - $5; Faculty/Staff/Guest - $15

Come with us on our off campus trip to the Palisades Mall, where participants can shop, go bowling, see a movie, and use their $10 play card at Dave and Busters! Transportation will be provided. The bus will leave promptly at 3:30pm and return to the Student Recreation Center at 9:00pm. The $10 Dave and Busters play card will be given to every participant that that signs up.

Yoga and Yogurt

  • Location: Student Recreation Center Multipurpose Rooms 1 and 2

  • Cost: Student - N/A; Faculty/Staff - N/A; Guest - $10

Yoga and Yogurt is an event held in Multipurpose Rooms 1 and 2. Participants attend a yoga class and enjoy free yogurt after participating so that they have an opportunity to relax as they prepare for finals that take place the following week. There will be tables set-up outside of the Multipurpose Rooms with yogurt.
