Moderate Hiking Trip

Moderate Hike (Bearfort Mountain) A moderate to strenuous 4.1 mile hike along the NJ-NY state line; some steep inclines and rock scrambles lead to stunning views of Greenwood Lake and NYC on a clear day; hike also stops along Surprise Lake and covers a short section of the Appalachian Trail.

What to Bring: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes; Water; packed Lunch; Bug Spray; Sunblock; Layered Clothing.

Boardwalk Beach Cruise

Let Hawk-on-Wheels treat you to a FREE bicycle rental so you can cruise along the boardwalk from Belmar to Asbury Park. Take a ride on the Carousel, see the historic Paramount Theatre and check out local artists at the Grand Arcade. And of course, music history everywhere!

Advanced Hike (Mount Tammany): Strenuous 3.5 mile loop hike, rocky and steep with great views of the Delaware Water Gap and surrounding area.

Essex County’s own Turtle-back Zoo is located just minutes from campus. Try the beginner’s level ropes course, take a spin in the paddle boats or just hang with the animals – there are brand new baby giraffes! This is the perfect event for those new to our program. Also, it’s family-friendly!

Intramural Sports is a program designed to offer opportunities for participation in a wide variety of sports and activities at the collegiate level. Many students have played sports at the high school or recreational level, and Intramural Sports affords the opportunity to stay active in sports without the time commitments or skills level of the varsity player. September 21, 2016 is the registration deadline for Flag Football, Dodgeball, Indoor Soccer, and Racquetball. Registration begins on September 2.

MSU Football Tailgate

White Water Rafting

Come and enjoy a day of White Water Rafting to the Lehigh River. It will be a fun, day long excursion in Pennsylvania with some seasoned rafting professionals. What to Bring: For warmer days come prepared with a towel, swim suit or quick-drying shorts and sandals with a heel strap, old sneakers, or water socks that you don’t mind getting wet. For cooler days, bring some extra layers, but be sure to avoid cotton as it will keep you cold and wet.
Half- or full wet suits can be rented from the organization. Half is $6, full is $12, jacket is $4.
A hotdog BBQ provided after, free of charge. Any other food or snacks should be brought with you.

Originally laid out as a road in the 1840s, The Cape Fly Away Loop includes a stone-railed bridge by a pretty waterfall. A historic and beautiful hike -- the perfect way to spend the hour gained today!

3v3 Basketball Tournament

Montclair Bikey Turkey Ride

Hawk on Wheels will be joining the Montclair Bikery in its annual Turkey Ride charity ride/fundraiser. Riders will meet at the Student Rec Center and then travel to the Montclair Bikery where the approximate 15 mile bike ride to Brookedale ShopRite will begin. Turkeys can be purchased for $20 at the ShopRite and then ridden to the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair.

Registration for the event is free at BikeReg.com. A free Hawk on Wheels bike will be available to ride for the charity ride. Participants who purchase a turkey will receive a free month Hawk on Wheels rental and receive a water bottle. Most of this stunning autumnal hike in Ramapo Valley County Reservation happens along a duck pond where seasonal wildlife can be spotted. This hike offers an expansive view over northwestern Bergen County. On clear days, the Manhattan skyline is visible in the distance. The climb is slow, steady and steep, but worth the views!

Special Friends Day is an event where kids with special needs, ages 5-12, play in the Recreation Center with their assigned buddies who help them explore and participate in the Recreation Center. Each "Special Friend" is paired with, at least, two college "Buddies". The group will spend the day exploring the Recreation Center playing, crafting, and swimming. Each year there is a designated theme that everything is related to.
