Group X

Montclair State University and Campus Recreation offer a wide variety of Group Xercise classes that are available to Recreation Center members and active students. Group Xercise classes are similar to aerobic classes but with a Campus Rec twist of fun. Our Group X instructors are full of energy and want to see, help, and push you to excel! Our Classes are open to all students of any fitness level, from beginner to advanced. Come try one of our classes and you'll see why our classes are so popular!

Sunrise Yoga

Designed to lift your energy in the morning, enjoy this slower-paced class that focuses on how you feel in each pose. This is the perfect class to start your day, as you’ll pay special attention to your alignment in each pose while rejuvenating your body and mind.

Yoga

Yoga is a great way to de-stress and rejuvenate the body and mind. This yoga class integrates breathing, stretching, strength-building, and relaxation to create a complete workout. No prior experience needed!

HardCORE

Challenge the powerhouse of your body – the core. Focus on strengthening your entire torso, including the abdominals, obliques & lower back.

BOSU

This class is perfect for targeting multiple areas of fitness like endurance, strength, balance, and stability. You can use it dome-side-up of the BOSU, almost like a step, and stand on it, sit on it, lie down on it or bounce around on it for cardio, lower body strength, or core moves. You can turn it over and use the platform side for upper body exercises, like push-ups, or more core moves, like planks.

POUND

A full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, isometric movements, plyometrics and Isometric poses into a 45-minute series. Strengthen and sculpt infrequently used muscles, and drum your way to a leaner, slimmer physique – all while rocking out to your favorite music!

TRX

TRX Suspension Training is a total body class that uses gravity against your own body weight to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability. This 45 minute class is great for participants of all levels!

Cardio Kickboxing

This class is a great cardiovascular workout that involves a positive and productive way to relieve stress and work out any aggression. This is set up with kicks and punches to upbeat music where the cardio burn is intense. With a little mental focusing, you will leave the room feeling stress free!

Cycling

Ready for a more authentic, more intense and less-stationary, indoor cycling class? The RealRyder is unlike any other bike because it moves with you, utilizing more muscle groups, burning more calories, and giving you a more authentic cycling experience than any stationary bike can. You won’t just feel the ride in your legs and lungs – you’ll feel it in your arms and core too.

Barbell Strength

This strength workout uses a barbell, and traditional weight room exercises for full body resistance training. Great music, awesome instructors and a choice of weight inspires participants to get the results they came for- and fast!

Strength & Power

A muscular-conditioning workout that uses free-weights and other fitness equipment. Instructors lead you through traditional and non-traditional exercises to improve your muscle strength and fitness level. Experience it once and you'll be hooked!

Zumba

A dance-fitness program that infuses international rhythms and dance moves. Based on nonverbal cueing and repeated sequences that will make you sweat! Burn a ton of calories during this non-stop hour!

Goodnight Yoga

A perfect way to end the weekend, Goodnight Yoga is longer than normal classes with extra time focusing on meditation. Breathing, stretching, and relaxing will help prepare participants for the week ahead.

Total Body Conditioning

This class incorporates strength and cardio segments using equipment such as dumbbells, body bars, and bands, for a total body workout.

SandSLAM

SandSLAM will help participants build strength and endurance through basic movements such as the swing, snatch and the clean and jerk. This class involves large numbers of repetitions for several minutes.

ZUMBA Express

Our express formats offer a quick 30 minute session of your favorite classes, like Zumba and hardCORE. These classes are perfect for lunch breaks and promise to be an efficient workout for those short on time!
