General Requirements

All Student Leaders must meet the following criteria:

You must be a Montclair State University student for the Fall 2024 semester, be available to work weekdays, weekends, and shifts in general between the times of 5:45 – 12:00 a.m. and you must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 while being in good academic standing.

Job Descriptions

Facilities
  • Clean fitness equipment and machines and restock supplies.
  • Pick up weights and other equipment left out and re-stack appropriately.
  • Enforce policies with patrons.
Aquatics
  • Maintain a current Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
  • Ability to work at three different pools on campus.
  • Attend all in-service training sessions and employee meetings.
  • Be alert, professional and helpful to patrons.
  • Assist in planning and implementing special event programs in the pool.
  • Potential opportunities to receive advanced certifications such as Water Safety Instructor, CPR Instructor and more.
Intramural Sports

Sports Official/Scorekeeper:

  • Enforce Intramural policies with participants while maintaining professionalism.
  • Officiate/score keep Intramural Sports games to ensure a safe and fun atmosphere.
  • Market/promote Intramural Sports and events to the campus community.
  • Attend sport clinics and trainings to learn sport rules and policies.
  • Be available to work nights.
Fitness

Group Fitness Instructor:

  • Instruct and lead group fitness classes with attendance up to 50 participants per class in a safe, motivating and engaging environment.
  • Set up and break down equipment for classes.
  • Promote group fitness classes to the campus community.
  • Potential opportunities to learn other class formats and receive advanced certifications.

Please Note: Group Fitness Certification is required prior to beginning employment from ACE, ACSM, AFAA or equivalent. Specialty certifications are accepted on a departmental needs basis in addition to the Group Fitness Certification requirement.

Personal Trainer:

  • Create individualized fitness programs for clients to achieve their goals.
  • Perform services such as fitness assessments, body compositions, flexibility training, conduct individual fitness consultations and equipment orientations.
  • Assist with planning and implementing fitness special event programs.
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Opportunities to receive advanced certifications.

Please Note: Personal Training Certification is required prior to beginning employment from ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA or equivalent.

Hawk on Wheels Rental Technician:

  • Review online bicycle reservation requests and assign bike to client.
  • Inspect bicycles when renting and returning for normal wear and tear or damaged/missing components.
  • Receive training to perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs to the bicycle fleet.
  • Opportunity for flexible work schedule.
Marketing

Graphic Designer:

  • Create posters, web graphics, banners and any other promotional materials for the events that the Student Recreation Center hosts.
  • Must be familiar with Adobe Illustrator. Other knowledge of Adobe programs is a plus (After Effects, Photoshop etc.).
  • Be able to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Work closely with Social Media Specialists for any Social Media promotions/campaigns.

Web Developer:

  • Implement/edit all text, graphics, and video content on the Campus Recreation webpage via WordPress.
  • Update and maintain Campus Rec Mobile App utilizing HTML and CSS.
  • Post Campus Recreation events on Engage, University Calendar, and Google Calendar
  • Upload video and image files on Four Winds Platform
  • Communicate with various departments about website and app specifications and input.

Social Media Specialist:

  • Run and maintain all social media platforms.
  • Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts to market events and programs.
  • Create and implement new ideas to boost engagement.
  • Must have strong writing and editing skills, experience with writing Marketing and PR blurbs is a plus.
  • Create and Implement new marketing strategies, campaigns/promotions and giveaways.

Photography/Videography:

  • Be familiar with DSLR cameras and editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Lightroom.
  • Photographers are required to photograph events as well as edit and upload the pictures to our social media platforms.
  • Videographers are responsible for filming and editing promotional commercials for events and programs.
  • May work as a photographer, videographer or both depending on area of specialization.
