Our audiology program prepares you to become a hearing and balance specialist—someone who changes lives by helping people connect with the world around them. You'll study the science of hearing, anatomy and neuroscience, while gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge diagnostic tools and hearing technologies. From children’s screenings to helping older adults manage hearing loss, you’ll learn to assess, diagnose and treat patients across their lifespans. You’ll also build skills in applied research and complete a nine-month, full-time externship at an audiology clinic. 

The AuD program at Montclair is 118 credits. The 11 semester program can be completed in 4 years (including summers). Our Doctorate in Audiology program is the only one of its kind in New Jersey and one of approximately 75 programs nationwide. With a Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree, you'll be prepared for a rewarding career in healthcare, education or industry—wherever people need help hearing clearly and living fully.

Accreditation

Graduates of the AuD program at Montclair State University will be prepared to practice in as clinicians in hospitals, community clinics, rehabilitation centers, schools and private practice.

Upon graduation, students from the AuD program at Montclair will be eligible for licensure in New Jersey and for Certification by the Council for Clinical Certification of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association under the 2020 Certification Standards.

The Doctor of Audiology (AuD) education program in audiology (residential) at Montclair State University is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700.

Meet Audiologists with Hearing Loss

Two Montclair State University Students Turn Their Own Hearing Loss into Audiology Careers. Graduate doctoral classmates Grace Gleba and Nicole Genser were both born with hearing loss and were fitted with hearing aids at three months. The two doctors of audiology now help people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Admission Requirements

  • Equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
  • You may enter the program at the post-baccalaureate level.
  • Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 will not be considered for admission.
  • Deposit Required: An enrollment deposit is required upon admission and will be applied to your first semester’s tuition.
  • Applicants with non-U.S. degrees, please visit the International Applicants page to review the US degree equivalency information.

Application Checklist

  • Application Deadline: Application Deadline: February 15th (Fall admission only).
  • Applications are submitted via the Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application Service (CSDCAS). To apply, use the CSDCAS application and add “Montclair State University” to your selected programs. For assistance with the CSDCAS application, visit their customer service site.
  • CSDCAS Application fee: CSDCAS requires a variable fee from all applicants ($133 for your first application, $53 for each subsequent application).
  • Transcript: One from each college attended.
  • Essays/Personal Statement: One (1) essay is required. Give evidence of your unique talents and experiences as an applicant to doctoral study at Montclair State University. In preparing your statement, please keep in mind that the Admissions Committee is seeking evidence of your ability to communicate clearly and professionally. Please include your reasons for pursuing doctoral studies by referring to relevant personal, academic and work experiences. Please also outline your future plans and any other information that may be of interest to the Admissions Committee.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Three (3) letters of recommendation, including at least two (2) from professional colleagues or college/university faculty who can attest to your potential for advanced study and research. Letters can be submitted via the CSDCAS recommender portal.
  • Resume: Optional.
  • Standardized Test Scores: GRE Test Scores are recommended, but not required. Official GRE scores should be sent using code 2520.
