Every student deserves to thrive – no matter their language background – and Montclair’s Bilingual/Bicultural Education Teacher Certification program will give you the tools to teach with impact.
This 12-credit program is designed for certified teachers who want to expand their expertise and become leaders in multilingual classrooms, and leads to the New Jersey Bilingual/Bicultural Education Endorsement. You can take it fully online and Montclair offers several partnerships with regional school districts.
In just one year, you’ll learn how to support Multilingual Learners by building on their home language and culture, helping them acquire English, and empowering them to succeed academically and socially.
Through coursework focused on bilingual teaching methods, cultural responsiveness, and second language acquisition, you’ll become an expert in creating inclusive, high-impact learning environments. And because the program is fully online and designed for working professionals, you can level up your career on a schedule that works for you.

Admission Requirements:
- Application Deadline: Rolling Admission.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Transcript: One from each college attended.
- Proof of teacher certification.
- Applicants must have oral and written proficiency in language other than English.
- This 12-credit, non-degree graduate program is designed for candidates who already possess or are completing coursework leading to New Jersey instructional certification in either Early Childhood (P-3), Elementary (K-6) or Subject-Area Education and wish to obtain an additional certification in Bilingual/Bicultural Education.
- Please note that out-of-state certified applicants may apply but will not be recommended to the New Jersey Department of Education for Bilingual/Bicultural certification.
- Applicants with non-U.S. degrees, please visit the International Applicants page to review the US degree equivalency information.
*F1/J1 visa seeking students are not eligible for this program.
