Advance Your Accounting Career — and Your Credentials

The STEM-designated Master of Science in Accounting at Montclair State University is built for driven professionals who want to take the next step — whether that means pivoting into the accounting field, preparing for the CPA exam, or moving into leadership roles.

In this flexible 33-credit program, you’ll gain advanced technical and functional skills in accounting, plus an in-depth understanding of today’s complex tax, auditing, and financial reporting practices. Courses are taught by expert faculty with real-world experience, so what you learn can be applied immediately on the job.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Detect and prevent fraudulent financial reporting
  • Perform accurate business valuations
  • Navigate taxation practices for individuals and business entities
  • Apply advanced financial accounting, auditing theory, and ethics in practice

With flexible scheduling, rolling admissions, and a curriculum that satisfies New Jersey’s CPA education requirements, you’ll graduate ready to compete — and lead — in the corporate, nonprofit, or public sector.

Choose Your Learning Format

Whether you want the energy of a classroom, the flexibility of online study, or a mix of both, our MS in Accounting offers multiple formats to fit your schedule and learning style.

Designed for career changers with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline except Accounting, the fully online MS in Accounting offers maximum flexibility without sacrificing connection. Courses are self-paced and asynchronous, so you can complete lectures, assignments, and assessments on your own schedule. Seven-week sessions keep you moving toward graduation — as few as 16 months — while discussion boards and virtual collaboration tools help you engage with classmates and faculty. You’ll also have full access to Montclair’s student support services.

The hybrid format blends the best of both worlds — the flexibility of online learning with the engagement of in-person classes. You’ll complete some coursework online and attend select classes on campus, giving you opportunities for hands-on learning, networking, and real-time collaboration while still enjoying a flexible schedule. This option works well for students who value face-to-face interaction but need the convenience of online modules to balance work, life, and school. It can be completed in as few as 16 months.
