Khalid Alston
Khalid is a junior Exercise Science major with a focus in clinical education and pre-professional studies; he also has a minor in sports nutrition. Khalid is an ACSM certified personal trainer, and plans to receive the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Specialization as well as the ACSM Exercise Physiologist certification upon graduation. Over his years as a trainer, Khalid has realized that his passion is less about giving out workouts, but more about changing lives through improving people’s health and fitness and providing them with a safe space where they can vent and be themselves.

Amani Bernard
Amani is a senior Economics major with a minor in business. He has been working at the Rec for four years, three of which he has been a personal trainer. He is also an internationally certified Taekwondo, Kickboxing, and self defense instructor. Some interesting facts about him are that he was a three year varsity letterman for football and baseball, and he is currently training to fight mixed martial arts professionally. A quote he loves is, “If you don’t stretch yourself, you won’t know your limits.” He believes this applies not only in fitness but also in life.

Megan Cannava
Megan is a junior Exercise Science Major with a focus in sports and conditioning and a minor in business. She is a NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified personal trainer who also has experience instructing group fitness classes such as bootcamp and barbell strength. Megan is a very self-motivated dedicated person who has a passion for fitness and helping others. In the future, Megan hopes to continue on with her education within the exercise science field by becoming an Exercise Physiologist and opening her own fitness facility. Her favorite quote is “Fitness is not a destination. It is a way of life.”

Richard Christian
Richard is a Senior majoring in Exercise Science with a concentration in Clinical and Pre-Professional Studies and aspires to get a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He is certified by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and has attended ACSM’s Fitness summit in Chicago in March 2019. This is Richard’s Second year working as a Personal Trainer at the Recreation Center and is very excited to keep working with his long term clients as well as building new connections with others. One of his favorite quotes is “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”

David Cosgrove
David is a senior exercise science student with a sports conditioning concentration. He is a W.I.T.S (World Instructor Training School) nationally certified personal trainer. And aspires to become a certified strength and conditioning coach. He got into fitness through training for high school basketball and it has been his passion ever since. David is starting his second year working as a trainer at the Montclair State Rec where he finds great fulfillment in being part of his client’s transformations. Whether the goals are to get stronger, feel better, or simply have fun, David is here to motivate and teach his client’s every step of the way. His favorite quote is, “Do something today that your future self will thank you for.”

Jordan Donahue
Jordan is a senior studying Athletic Training at Montclair State University. She is an ACE certified personal trainer and a certified Keiser cycling instructor. Jordan has experience playing field hockey and basketball for over 10 years, which inspired her to get into fitness. Her goal is to educate and motivate her clients while making it an enjoyable experience. An interesting fact about Jordan is that she once had a personal trainer and because of her great experience, she was determined to get in shape and become one herself. One of her favorite quotes is, “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you’re doing, you will be successful.” – Albert Schweitzer

Lena Grimaldi
Lena is a second bachelor Nutrition and Food Science major with a concentration in Dietetics. She is a NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified personal trainer. Lena also received a degree in Political Science and Gender Studies from the University in Pittsburgh in 2017. She is constantly listening to health science podcasts to be up to date on all the current fitness and nutrition research, and is constantly applying her newfound knowledge to herself and clients alike. An interesting fact about Lena is that she lived in Dubai for 6 months and studied Arabic for 3 years. Her favorite inspiring quote is, “The grass is greener where you water it.”

Faith Guevara
Faith is a sophomore who is majoring in Nutrition and Food Science with a concentration in Dietetics. All throughout her life, she had participated in a variety of sports which include gymnastics, tennis, soccer, and wrestling. Through her experience as an athlete, she has developed a passion for healthy living and had learned the significant role nutrition plays in maximizing an individual’s athletic performance, as well as optimizing overall health. In the future, Faith hopes to become a Registered Dietitian and specialize in sports nutrition. A fun fact about her is that she is looking into becoming an assistant coach for her previous high school’s wrestling team, so she can help train future female wrestlers. Her favorite quote is “If you really want something you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse”- Jim Rohn.

Shannon McLaughlin
Shannon is a junior in the Athletic Training program at Montclair State University. She is certified in AED/CPR and first aid through the American Red Cross and through the American Heart Association. Shannon is personal training certification is through ACE(American Council on Exercise). In high school she was a three sport athlete in field hockey, track, and lacrosse which inspired her love for athletes and fitness. Shannon hopes to help others throughout their fitness journey and reach their goals. One interesting fact she loves cross fit and was an Irish step dancing for 13 years. Her favorite fitness quote is “For me, fitness is not just about hitting the gym; it is also about an inner happiness and an overall well-being” Rakul Preet Singh.

Anthony Reeder
Anthony is a Senior Exercise Science major concentration in sports conditioning. He is certified through the American Fitness Institution and is certified Advance Sport Performance coach for USAW (USA Weightlifting). He has been a trainer for two years and gained his experience in training through the Westfield YMCA and volunteering in numerous youth clubs. In addition, Anthony has played football, wrestling and track and field in high school. He hopes to motivate others to better themselves and obtain their fitness goals. A fun fact about Anthony is that he loves the Latin culture so much he taught himself Spanish in high school!

Morgan Sawyer
Morgan is a senior at Montclair State University majoring in Exercise Science with a concentration in the Pre-Clinical Studies. She is also the Vice President of the club field hockey team, and a member of the sorority Sigma Delta Tau. This is her second year as a Personal Trainer and she is excited to continue her journey in fitness. Her favorite quotes are “everything happens for a reason” and “what’s meant to be will be.”
