Team Biography:

Montclair State Women’s Rugby goal is to teach the fundamentals of rugby in a competitive and recreational manner, through practices and games with programs at other schools. Rugby is a full-contact sport and our Women’s team is new to campus. We have a competitive fall season playing teams in our Tri-State conference, and we also play a more relaxed spring season. We do not require any previous experience, just a good work ethic and a drive to learn the sport! We practice twice a week, and games are on the weekends.

Coach Biography:

Ryan “Tree” Murphy has played rugby since 2007, and was a member of the Montclair State Men’s Rugby Team from 2011-2014. He is the proud father of two cats. He earned his level 200 USA rugby coaching certificate in 2014 and formed the Women’s team same year, assuming the head coach position. Tree enjoys scrums, his assistant coach, Anna Gildea, and coffee. Tree currently plays for Union County Rugby Club and is a 6th grade teacher in Bloomfield.
