I. MISSION: The mission of the Department of Campus Recreation and Intramural Services is to provide programs, services and facilities that encourage personal development and learning experiences through enjoyable sport and recreational opportunities.
Team Rep Responsibilities:
Team Representative Meeting; Actions of Players; Bench Personnel; Team Representatives
Team Spectators; Score Card; Eligibility; Updated Roster; Playoff schedules
II. HEALTH AND SAFETY: Participation in the Intramural Program is voluntary which means that individuals assume all responsibility for their own health and safety. The risk of injury is inherent in many of the recreational sport activities offered by the Intramural Program. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that individuals intending to participate in IM sports should, for their own protection, have a physical examination to determine if they are physically able to participate, be fully aware of all inherent risks involved in that sport, and have medical insurance to cover expenses incurred in the event of injury.
Any participant or spectator under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, or who brings alcohol or illegal drugs to a game or event will be ejected from the facility and may face University Judicial Charges. Additionally, the use of tobacco products is strictly prohibited in all campus recreation facilities and at all events.
“Recreational” attire is required. This includes but is not restricted to gym shorts, t-shirts, non-marking shoes, sweatshirts, sweatpants, etc. Intramural participants are restricted from competing in denim (jeans shirt/short/pants), industrial boots, or any other clothing deemed by the game supervisor to be harmful to the participant or opponents.
The University, Campus Recreation and its sponsors assume no liability for injuries that may occur during any Campus Recreation event or in any of the Campus Recreation facilities.
III. INDIVIDUAL ELIGIBILITY: The following persons are the ONLY PEOPLE eligible to participate in the Intramural Program.
All participants must be at least 18 years of age or older.
NCAA Athletes: An individual MAY NOT PARTICIPATE in their specialty or equivalent sports during the same academic year in which they participated with the varsity team.
| If You Play: | You Cannot Play: |
| Baseball | Baseball Softball |

| Football | Flag Football |
| Ice Hockey | Floor Hockey |
| Soccer | Indoor Soccer Outdoor Soccer |

Any student practicing with a team during the current year is not eligible to participate in Intramurals in that sport’s equivalent.
MSU NCAA team members should obtain permission from their coaches before participating in any and all Intramural sports.
Athletic team members who are scholastically ineligible for intercollegiate competition are not eligible to participate in the IM Sport(s) of their sports’ equivalent.
MSU Sport Club members are eligible for participation in their equivalent sport, but are limited to one member per IM team.
Individuals who have played a sport professionally are ineligible to participate in that sport or its equivalent.
Eligibility Violations will be reviewed by the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, and may result in team forfeiture and loss of future intramural privileges.
IV. TEAM ROSTER: Once a player plays with a team in that sport, he/she is permanently added to that team’s roster, and may not play for another team. Roster additions are made in person at the game site.
During playoffs, all players must have played in one regular season game to be eligible for playoffs. No new players may be added
Players may play for a team in Male/Female League AND Co-Ed League.
Any player playing on two different teams in the same league becomes ineligible. SEE ELIGIBILITY RULES FOR RESULT.
V. FORFEITS AND DEFAULTS: to default or forfeit a game is very demoralizing to the entire Intramural Program.
If your team cannot avoid defaulting or forfeiting a scheduled game, we REQUIRE that the Campus Rec Office be notified no later than 4 p.m. the prior business day to the scheduled playing time. Games lost by forfeit or default will not be rescheduled.
GAME TIME IS FORFEIT OR DEFAULT TIME! NO EXCEPTIONS!
DEFAULTS - Two defaults by the same team in one season will remove a team from the schedule.
A scrimmage game MUST be played in order to receive a “default”. Regardless of the outcome, the game will count as a loss to the defaulting team. If no scrimmage game is played, the defaulting team will receive a “forfeit”, unless the other team refuses to play. Then both receive a default.
FORFEITS – One forfeit by a team removes them from the playoffs, two removes them from the schedule..
VI. PROTESTS – There are no protests of any kind. Should a team captain wish to speak to the Assistant Director regarding the eligibility of a player, or a decision, he/she MUST do so in person no later than 48 hours after game time.
VII. SPORTSMANSHIP - Good sportsmanship is essential to the overall success and enjoyment of this program. Acts of unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. The IM Staff will make decisions on whether to penalize, warn or eject offending players and/or teams. The team representatives will be held responsible for the actions of all their players, bench personnel, and team spectators.
Only the team rep may discuss things (calmly) with the officials.
A. Excellent: Players cooperate fully with officials and other team members. (4 points)
B. Good: Anyone but the team captain addresses the official. (3 points)
C. Average: Team shows verbal dissent towards officials and or opposing team (2 points)
D. Below Average: Teams constantly comment to the officials and/or the opposing team (1 point)
F. Poor Conduct and Sportsmanship: Team is completely uncooperative. (0 points)
Reinstatement - Only the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation has the authority to grant reinstatement.
IX. POSTPONEMENTS AND RESCHEDULING
Postponement - Due to a variety of reasons, games will be postponed by the Intramural Office. Team representatives are responsible for calling the Intramural HOTLINE at x4354 after 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, or 12:00 p.m. on weekends, for information on playing conditions (outdoors only). Due to the unpredictable nature of weather forecasting, The Intramural HOTLINE may be updated throughout the evening (or day for weekend games) to reflect changes in conditions or game status. The Intramural Program will generally play scheduled games UNLESS the IM HOTLINE specifically states they have been postponed. You can call the site 30 minutes prior to your scheduled game if you are still unsure about playing conditions.
Game Change Requests MUST be made in person with the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation or the Intramural G.A. This does not guarantee the request will be approved. Teams that qualify for playoffs must be prepared to play on nights and times other than those played during the regular season. Playoff games will NOT be rescheduled unless the Department of Campus Recreation formally cancels a game due to weather.
X. FREE AGENTS
Eligible players not currently on a team should not be discouraged from playing intramural sports. Instead, “free agents” should attend the mandatory captain’s meeting for the specific sport he/she would like to play. At that time, captains may invite free agents to join their team if more players are necessary OR a free agent team may be created in a sport. Also, if a person wants to play and can’t make the meeting, then he/she should come directly to the game site during games. Teams may add them on the spot.
REFEREES AND OFFICIALS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. IT’S FUN, GET PAID, MAKE NEW FRIENDS, AND LEARN VALUABLE PROFESSIONAL SKILLS IN THE PROCESS. IF INTERESTED, CALL KEITH x5350.
