Join us for an evening with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri on translation as a creative and political practice: “Only translations can expand the literary horizon, open doors, and knock down walls,” she claims. After learning Italian, living in Italy for a while, and publishing in Italian, Lahiri has embraced translation as an activity to rethink herself as a person and a writer at a time in which valuing plurilingualism is more pressing than ever.

Moderated by Teresa Fiore (Inserra Chair) with opening remarks by Peter Kingstone (CHSS Dean). Mon. Nov. 18 6:30-8pm (University Hall 7th Floor).

Followed by the signing of the Penguin Book of Italian Short Stories, edited (and in part translated) by Jhumpa Lahiri.

For more information about this collaborative interdisciplinary event which should be of interest to students, faculty, and staff in all colleges of our multi-lingual campus, see webpage and flyer. RSVP HERE.
