Dr. Tarika Daftary-Kapur, Associate Professor of Justice Studies, was featured on Iowa Public Radio regarding the unlawful confinement of Nebraska youths in juvenile detention centers. Dr. Daftary-Kapur has focused much of her work and research on juvenile justice and adolescent decision making.
“Solitary or room confinement for children, and even adults, for long, sustained periods of time can lead to depression, it can lead to anxiety,” says Daftary-Kapur. She explains that young people are at a heightened risk for these mental health issues due to their developmental vulnerability.
