This page includes jury guides as samples. Consult your teacher about your individual requirements.
Every student registered for lessons is required to take a jury examination at the end of the semester. The jury grade will contribute significantly to your final grade for the semester. Juries are required even if you have performed a recital, though exceptions may be made at the discretion of the area coordinator on a case-by-case basis.
The objectives described below should be considered as the minimum level to be achieved. Although specific pieces are indicated, they are not to be construed as “required pieces.” Rather, they are mentioned as examples of the particular level. Your instructor will work with you to choose the particular repertoire, scales, and technical studies to be prepared for each semester of study. If you advance beyond the minimum, your instructor will set additional goals leading to the highest possible level of mastery.
The length of juries varies. Times will be indicated on the sign-up sheets that are generally posted during the last week of classes.
Note the maximum number of semesters of study for each particular major is as follows:
Music Therapy (MT) Majors—4 or 6 semesters
Music Education (ME) Majors—7 semesters
Theory/Composition (TC) Majors—4 or 6 semesters
Performance (PERF) Majors—8 semesters
