New Student Seminar

New Student Seminar (GNED199) serves as an introduction to the college experience and provides a forum for the development of strategies, skills, and techniques that promote success in university life.

In Fall 2018, the New Student Seminar course underwent a redesign, led by a cross-campus team of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs professionals. The redesign team is responsible for curriculum development and assessment, and is committed to using cutting-edge platforms to support student success in the course. The team delivers robust professional development for instructors and has established an impactful instructor community, both on Canvas and in ongoing training throughout each semester.

In this course, students interact with peers, faculty, staff, campus organizations, and the Montclair State University community.  New Student Seminar encourages students to take an active role in the educational process by participating in classroom discussion, attending workshops, and completing reflective writing, while developing and strengthening self-awareness, time management, higher level thinking, and utilization of campus technology.
