Montclair State University has recently updated several key academic policies. Here’s a quick overview of the changes you need to know:
Medical Withdrawal Policy
The Medical Withdrawal process has new requirements and clearer deadlines:
- Acknowledgement Form: Students must complete this form before submitting a request.
- Partial Withdrawals: Must now be submitted by the University’s Last Day to Withdraw from Classes.
- Full Withdrawals: Requests are due at least six (6) business days before the semester ends.
- Current Semester Only: Retroactive requests are no longer accepted. Students should also review the financial and housing impacts carefully, as withdrawals may affect tuition, financial aid, housing, and meal plans.
Pass/Fail Grading Policy
Pass/Fail grading can now be applied not only to free electives, but also to General Education/SEEDS Exploration courses. To align with peer institutions, the total number of credits allowed as Pass/Fail has been reduced.
Please Note: This policy is for undergraduate students, only.
Dean’s List Policy
The Dean’s List criteria have changed: eligibility beginning with the Fall 2025 semester now goes to students with a GPA in the top 10% of their college, rather than a set GPA cutoff.
Please Note: This policy is for undergraduate students, only.
