Pebbles

Montclair State University’s Pupscot

Rocky the Red Hawk is proud to share the spotlight with his beloved pupscot (puppy mascot), Pebbles! Since 2023, Pebbles has been wagging her way into the hearts of Red Hawks everywhere. She brings joy, connection and a whole lot of Red Hawk Pride to campus events, strolls around the Quad and spontaneous photo ops. Whether she’s showing off her signature tricks or greeting new students, Pebbles is here to make Montclair feel even more like home.

Pebbles is a full-time campus celeb! Find her at campus events, hanging out at Residence Life or just enjoying a sunny day on the lawn. Snap a selfie, grab one of her signature trading cards or stickers and don’t forget to follow her adventures online. Want to meet her or bring her to your event? Follow or Request Pebbles!

About Pebbles

Pebbles is a mini labradoodle born on November 1, 2022, and she joined our Montclair family on February 17, 2023. Don’t let her size fool you… this small pup has a big presence and an even bigger heart! She lives on campus with her mom, Thea Dyer, Assistant Director for Residence Life and has quickly become a familiar face (and furry friend) to students, staff, and families. From Welcome Week to finals season, Pebbles is always ready to brighten your day.

Why a Pupscot?

Everyone needs a pal…even Rocky. But Pebbles is more than just a sidekick, she’s part of a broader mission to support student well-being and belonging. Students often say they miss their pets back home and seeing Pebbles brings a much-needed dose of comfort, fun and emotional support to campus. While therapy dogs visit once or twice a semester, Pebbles is here year-round to offer tail wags, cuddles and community connection.

In addition to Pebbles’ presence, Montclair State University offers a range of mental health resources to support students:

  • Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS): Provides free, confidential services including individual counseling, group therapy, psychiatric evaluations and referrals.

  • Let’s Talk: Offers informal, drop-in consultations with CAPS counselors, both in person and via Zoom, providing easy access to support.

  • TAO (Therapy Assistance Online): A free, self-guided platform offering modules on stress, anxiety, depression and more, accessible anytime.

  • Uwill: Offers free teletherapy sessions for students, providing flexibility and convenience.

  • Mental Health First Aid: An eight-hour course teaching adults how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

  • Suicide Prevention Resources: CAPS provides 24/7 support through various channels, including the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (988), Crisis Text Line (text HELLO to 741741) and more.

Pebbles complements these services by offering a friendly face and a wagging tail, reminding students they’re not alone. Whether you’re stopping by a Zen Den, attending a CAPS workshop or just need a moment of joy between classes, Pebbles is here to support your journey.
