Accepted Transfer Student Checklist

  • Obtain your NetID

Each student is given a NetID which functions as both your e-mail and login to many MSU systems.  In order to complete numerous other steps of this checklist, you MUST complete this step. Follow instructions at netid.montclair.edu.

  • Let Us Know You Are Coming

Complete the Candidate's Reply Form found in your Acceptance Packet and submit it with the appropriate deposit as soon as you are sure of your commitment to the University.

  • Sign up for an Orientation

As a transfer student, you need to attend a MANDATORY Transfer Student Orientation session where you will learn how to plan your first schedule, become acclimated with the campus, and meet with an Academic Advisor. The Center for Advising & Student Transitions (CAST) coordinates Orientation.

  • Meet your Faculty Advisor

All transfer students are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment with their faculty advisor upon admission to the University. If a student meets with their faculty advisor prior to their Transfer Student Orientation date, they will have the opportunity to gain insight into which courses to register for at Orientation, learn specific information about their major requirements, and become better prepared for their academic career at Montclair State University. To learn more information about your faculty advisor, please visit this site.

  • Review your Analysis of Academic Progress

As a transfer student, you will able to access your Analysis of Academic Progress (i.e. Credit Evaluation) within 10 business days from the receipt of the acceptance letter.  The credit evaluation will tell you how your courses are transferring over and what courses you have left to complete in order to receive your degree from Montclair.  To learn more about the Analysis of Academic Progress and how to access it, visit the CAST website.

By comparing the information on your Analysis to the courses being offered during the upcoming semester, you can begin to build your schedule through WESS.

  • Apply for Financial Aid

To be considered for federal and state financial aid, as well as any merit or non-merit based scholarships, make sure you complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the MARCH 1 PRIORITY DEADLINE.

  • Provide Proof of Mandatory Immunizations

To ensure the health of our students, all incoming students are required to submit the MSU Immunization Form. Please bring this form to your physician for completion.

  • Complete Your Housing Application Form

Students who have paid their tuition deposit ($85) and housing deposits ($300) must fill out housing forms. Housing is guaranteed to students who submit deposits by the June 1 deadline.

  • Submit Your Final Transcripts

After you have completed all courses in progress, be sure to submit a final transcript from ALL colleges and/or universities you have attended. If you are receiving an Associate’s Degree, be sure that the degree has been posted before the transcript is sent to Montclair.

  • Pay Your Student Account

Montclair State University offers a variety of payment options to suit your needs. Please visit the payment options page for full details on when bills are generated and how payment can be made.
