Learn more about the I-20 Process you must complete before arriving at Montclair State University.

  • Obtain your NetID

Each student is given a NetID which functions as both your e-mail and logon to many MSU systems.  In order to complete numerous other steps of this checklist, you MUST complete this step. Follow instructions at netid.montclair.edu.

  • Let Us Know You’re Coming:

Print out and submit the Candidates Reply Form and submit it with the appropriate deposit by the MAY 1 DEADLINE.

  • Complete Your Placement Test Reply Forms:

Placement tests are administered to many incoming freshmen to ascertain the proper course level for each student. Some students are exempt from the placement tests. Please review the exemption criteria and indicate your status by completing and checking the appropriate line on the Placement Test Reply Form within one week of submitting a deposit.

  • Review the Foreign Language Placement Announcement and complete the registration form.

  • Complete Mandatory Medical Paperwork:

To ensure the health of our students, all incoming students are required to submit the MSU Immunization Form. Please bring this form to your physician for completion.

  • Pay Your Student Account:

Montclair State University offers a variety of payment options to suit your needs. Please visit the payment options page for full details on when bills are generated and how payment can be made.

  • Complete Your Housing Application Form:

Students who have paid their admissions acceptance and housing deposits ($305) must also complete their housing forms. Keep in mind that housing is on a first come first serve basis and is NOT GUARANTEED. To improve your chances at receiving housing, please send in your housing deposit before May 1.

  • Submit Your Final Transcripts:

Your final secondary school and/or college transcripts must be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. If your courses were still in progress at the time of your acceptance, or if you would like to receive credit for courses that you have taken, we MUST have the official evaluation of the transcript.  These transcripts should be evaluated by an accredited credential evaluation service.  For a list of such services, please visit www.naces.org.

  • Attend Orientation/Register for Classes:

As a first year student, you  need to attend a MANDATORY Orientation session where you will plan your first schedule and become acclimated to the campus. The Office of New Student Experience coordinates Orientation.
