About Thinking
Founded in 1979, Thinking: The Journal of Philosophy for Children is published by the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children, a non-profit educational institute at Montclair State University.
The journal is a forum for the work of both theorists and practitioners of philosophical practice with children, and publishes such work in all forms, including philosophical argument and reflection, classroom transcripts, curricula, empirical research, and reports from the field. The journal also maintains a tradition in publishing articles in the hermeneutics of childhood, a field of intersecting disciplines including cultural studies, social history, philosophy, art, literature and psychoanalysis.

Author Guidelines
Thinking is a blind-refereed journal. Philosophical
articles should meet the guidelines for
"Research in Philosophy" published by the American Philosophical
Association. Articles reporting on empirical studies should meet
the "Standards for
Reporting on Empirical Social Science Research" published by the
American Educational Research Association.
Submissions to Thinking should be delivered as Microsoft Word documents
attached to emails to the
Editors Tom Lardner and Felix García Moriyón, at:
fgam0044@ficus.pntic.mec.es. Articles should be
around 4000 words. Shorter articles are welcome and
longer articles may be considered. Text should be double spaced,
the font type Times New Roman 12, with one-inch margins all around.
Manuscripts
should include on a separate page: the author's name and email address,
a short autobiographical statement, a summary of 100 words or less, and
key words and phrases that could be used to index the article.
Submission of an article will be held to imply that it contains
original, unpublished work. In consideration for publication and dissemination of their work, authors agree to transfer copyright of their work to the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children, including full and exclusive rights to publication in all media.
Rejected manuscripts will not normally be returned to contributors.
References in the text of the
manuscript should be indicated by giving the author’s name, with the
year of publication in parentheses. If several papers by the same author
and from the same year are cited, a. b. c., etc. should be put after the
year of publication. The references should be listed in full al the end
of the paper in the following standard form:

please supply one complete set of figures in a finished form, suitable
for reproduction. If this is not possible, figures will be redrawn by
the publisher
Pdf
proofs will be sent to the authors if there is
sufficient time to do so. They should be reviewed and returned to the
Editor within three days. Major alterations to the text cannot be
accepted.
Offprints: A pdf offprint
will be supplied to first-named contributors. Copies may be purchased
and should be ordered when the proofs are returned.

Book Review Essays
Thinking welcomes reviews of all books, recent or not, which concern philosophy and childhood-whether the concern and its expression be philosophical, fictional, (auto)biographical, historical, pedagogical, theoretical, empirical/experimental, phenomenological, poetic, curricular, or some other genre. Reviews of relevant doctoral dissertations are also welcome. Reviews should be roughly 2-3000 words and sent electronically to the Book Review Editor, Ann Margaret Sharp, at sharpa@mail.montclair.edu. Please submit a short autobiographical statement with your manuscript, for publication on the title page of your review.
