Associate-to-Bachelor’s (2+2) Applicants

Earn your associate's degree at a partner community college, then seamlessly transfer to Montclair State University to finish your bachelor’s – with guaranteed admission and a clear pathway into your major.

  • Work with advisors from Montclair and your community college to complete your AA or AS in two years.
  • Upon graduation and meeting program criteria, transfer to Montclair with junior standing and all general education requirements waived.

Who is this 2+2 option for?

Middlesex College students who apply through the 2+2 Program for the Educational Foundations for Elementary Teachers major, have the opportunity to be admitted into Montclair’s Teacher Education Program.

Eligibility criteria

  • Associate of Science degree in Elementary Education.
  • Demonstrated content-area competency plus strong oral and written communication skills.
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA from all previously attended institutions.

How to apply

  1. Fill out a brief online survey.
  2. If you are ready to transfer next semester, apply to the 2+2 Partners Program.
  3. Submit all required materials: official college transcripts, one letter of recommendation from an education or prerequisite-course professor, a resume, and an admissions essay (500 words or less) explaining why you want to become a teacher, using the Portrait of a Teacher as a guide.
  4. Complete a required interview and impromptu writing sample with Teacher Education.

Admission deadlines

  • Spring admission: November 15.
  • Fall admission: April 15.
