Who is an RN to BSN applicant?

An RN to BSN applicant holds (or will hold) a current RN license earned through an accredited associate degree or diploma nursing program. 

Montclair’s RN to BSN program is designed with working nurses in mind, with 100% online, asynchronous classes so you can complete coursework on your own schedule.

RN to BSN Admissions Standards

Each application is reviewed individually. In general, competitive RN to BSN applicants have:

  • A sustained, rigorous academic record with an overall GPA of at least 2.5.
  • A registered nurse license in good standing in New Jersey.

Affording your BSN

Because of the growing demand for BSN-prepared nurses, many employers offer tuition assistance or reimbursement to help RNs complete their bachelor’s degree. Check with your employer about what options are available to you.

RN to BSN Application Requirements

In order to be considered for admission to the RN to BSN program at Montclair, you must submit the following:

  • Submit the online application.
  • After you complete the form, you will receive instructions for paying the $65 non‑refundable application fee or submitting a fee‑waiver request before your application is reviewed.
  • An official transcript from all regionally accredited colleges, universities, and/or nursing diploma programs previously attended.
  • An official high school transcript. This requirement is waived if you have completed, or will complete, an associate degree.
  • Students with fewer than 30 completed college credits may also submit SAT and/or ACT scores. (Applicants submitting ACT scores only must have taken the optional writing section for the scores to be considered complete.)
  • You may submit an optional personal statement or essay. After you submit your application, you will see instructions on how to upload your essay. If you choose to include one, focus on why you are seeking to further your education at this point in your nursing career.
  • You may also provide optional supporting materials, such as letters of recommendation from academic or professional references, to strengthen your application.
